Information for Participants
Dear Conference Participants,
The 3rd International Symposium on Halogen Bonding (ISXB-3; June 10-14, 2018) and associated IUPAC International Workshop@ISXB-3 (June 9-10, 2018) is approaching and we are looking forward to meeting you in Greenville, SC! The conference venue is the Hyatt Regency Hotel Greenville. Please be sure to use the link under accommodations to make your reservations.
Please keep checking back to this site for updated information. The ISXB-3 Book of Abstracts including the Conference Program is now posted here. A printed form of the Abstract Book will also be provided at the registration desk. Registration will take place on Sunday afternoon (time TBD) and for those who arrive later, any day during the conference.
Wireless internet will be available at the conference center free of charge.
If your abstract has been accepted for an oral presentation, please prepare slides in PowerPoint format, and save your slides on a USB flash drive for easy file transfer. We will provide both PC and Mac for presentations, as well as a laser pointer and microphone. You will not be able to use your personal computer for your presentation. We invite you to contact our computer assistants the day before your presentation during coffee/lunch breaks or early in the morning to upload your presentation in the conference room, but be sure to have your presentation uploaded to the session computer at least 15 minutes before the start of your session. Please remember to bring all necessary adapters to use and charge your electronic devices in the U.S. (Plug types A and B, 120V, 60 Hz).
For poster presentations, the poster boards are 3 feet tall X 4 feet wide (120 cm X 190 cm). Please prepare your poster to fit within these measurements. Poster numbers will be provided in the Book of Abstracts.
Conference Meals and Conference Dinner/Excursion
Registration includes conference materials as well as a welcoming reception, four (4) breakfasts, three (3) lunches (except for accompanying persons), a poster session reception, and five (5) coffee breaks. Wednesday’s excursion will include a barbeque dinner at the premier barbeque restaurant in Greenville, Smoke on the Water, followed by attendance of a Class A baseball game between the Greenville Drive and the Rome Braves at Fluor Field.
The closest airport is Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (Airport Code: GSP), which is about 13 miles from the conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency. For those staying at the conference hotel, a shuttle is provided. There are several other hotels within walking distance of the Hyatt. See the accommodations page to see which of these provides shuttle service. Taxi service (or Uber) is also available to and from the airport from all major hotels (all taxis accept major credit cards). If you choose to fly into either of the major airports in the region, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) or Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), you will probably need to rent a car, as they are both 2-3 hours drive from Greenville. A hired shuttle may also be available, but they would be quite a bit more expensive.
Major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are widely accepted in the U.S., although there may be some restrictions on using American Express. International currency is generally not accepted. One of many currency calculators can be found here.
The weather in South Carolina in June is generally on the warm side of pleasant, and typically sunny and dry, although an afternoon shower or thunderstorm is always a possibility. Summer clothes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock will all be useful, especially during the excursion to a Greenville Drive Class A baseball game.
We recommended that you purchase an insurance policy of your choice as you book your travel to the conference. The Conference Organisers cannot accept any liability for personal injuries sustained, or for loss or damage to property belonging to conference participants, during or in connection to the conference.
