Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to Greenville, South Carolina in the U.S. to participate in the 3rd International Symposium on Halogen Bonding (ISXB3). The meeting will take place from June 10th - 14th, 2018, and will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Greenville.
As with the previous symposia, ISXB3 will focus on all aspects of halogen bonding, from fundamental principles to applied technology. It will feature presentations on both experimental and theoretical approaches. Internationally renowned experts in halogen bonding will present keynote addresses on topics at the frontier of the field in areas ranging from advanced materials to medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. Contributed presentations and posters will provide coverage of all areas of interest, with special sessions for young researchers, such as graduate students and postdoctoral associates, and for rising stars in the field.
In addition to ISXB-3, there will be a satellite IUPAC International Workshop on tetrel, pnictogen and chalcogen bonding, taking place on June 9-10th at the same venue, organized by Professor Giuseppe Resnati of the Politecnico di Milano. This provides a convenient opportunity to participate in two significant international events covering closely related "sister" interactions.
Greenville is a vibrant and progressive southern city with a population of approximately 70,000, and is centered in a metropolitan area of about 1.5 million people. With over 100 restaurants and within walking distance of the venue, the city is known for its outstanding southern cuisine and craft breweries. There's even a moonshine distillery just across the street! The city has the highest international investment per capita in the U.S., and is home to 250+ international firms, including major facilities of BMW, Michelin, GlaxoSmithKline, and Kyocera. As a result, the cultural atmosphere of the city combines traditional southern hospitality with a more cosmopolitan ambience.
Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the city abounds with multi-use trails, parks, and gardens and is surrounded by many beautiful nature-based sites and activities. Rock climbing, whitewater rafting, backpacking and hiking trails, and many outstanding waterfalls are all within easy driving distance.
Greenville is conveniently located, with an international airport (GSP) located just a few miles from the venue, with a shuttle provided by the Hyatt Regency. The major airports of Atlanta Hartsville (ATL) in Georgia and Charlotte Douglas (CLT) in North Carolina are approximately 2-3 hours drive from Greenville.
We welcome you to Greenville and ISXB3, and look forward to seeing you in June!
